Meet Our Educators!

Denise A. Handlon is the Online Education Center Director for Avon High School in Avon, Indiana. She has taught for 18 years in a variety of school settings. She started her teaching career at a residential correctional facility for teens; taught Adult Education in Michigan; spent three years teaching middle school social studies, and has been the Online Education Center Director for Avon High School since 2009.

Shekeria Barnes is the founding principal at Southwest Charlotte STEM Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. Shekeria began her teaching journey in the Weldon City Schools district in rural, eastern, NC. She is a 2000 graduate of Elizabeth City State with a Bachelor of Arts in English and 2006 graduate of Central Michigan University with a Master of Arts in Education. She also obtained a NC K-12 School Administrator's license from Wingate University in 2012.

Shaunta Broadway McDaniel is the principal of Emma Hutchinson Elementary, an urban elementary school in Atlanta, Georgia. Shaunta completed her undergraduate degree from the Sam Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. After graduation, she realized her true passion was educating children. So she received a MAT in Education from the University of Memphis. Eventually, receiving her doctorate in School Improvement from the University of West Georgia. She joined Atlanta Public Schools in 2000 as a teacher and served in various instructional and district leadership roles prior to becoming a principal.
