What is the Edmentum Academic Sprints Contest featuring Study Island?
The Edmentum Academic Sprints Contest is our 2016-17 school year contest, which will run from August 22 – May 31, 2016. There will be one school winner and one student winner named each month, each semester, and at the end of the year. The winning students will be determined by the total number of unique Blue Ribbons earned in Study Island in each grade span.
All subjects are included in the contest except for custom content and open-ended questions. There may be only one entry per school.

How will Edmentum determine which students are participating in the contest?
Any student from a registered school who answers questions in Study Island within the contest period in which you have registered will count towards your school Blue Ribbon total. Students who do not log into Study Island during the contest period will not be counted.

What does it cost to compete in the Academic Sprints Contest?
It is free to register and compete in the contest. Any additional advertisement, prizes, or incentives provided by a school or district are at the sole discretion and expense of that school or district.

How are Blue Ribbons earned?
Blue Ribbons are earned based on Study Island default passing goals of 70% on assignments. If you have a higher or lower passing goal set for your students, you do not need to make any changes to your passing goal. White Ribbons will not count towards ribbon totals.

Only unique Blue Ribbons will be counted towards contest totals. In the event that two Study Island programs available within your subscription contain identical topics, a Blue Ribbon earned in the particular topic will only be counted once towards contest totals.

Do Blue Ribbons earned outside of the contest window count towards my total?
Only unique Blue Ribbons earned during the contest window will be counted towards contest totals.

What content will count towards contest Blue Ribbon totals?
All Study Island subjects are allowed. Custom content and open-ended questions will be excluded. Students are encouraged to complete assignments that meet their differentiated academic needs and the decision to assign different levels of content is at the discretion of the teacher. Blue Ribbons earned in content below grade level for remediation needs, on grade level, and above grade level for acceleration purposes will count towards contest totals.

How are the winners determined?
The winning schools will be selected based upon the total number of unique Blue Ribbons earned in Study Island divided by the total number of students participating in the contest from a given school. The single school with the highest average number of unique Blue Ribbons earned per student will be designated the winner. This will allow for larger and smaller schools to compete on the same playing field. The single student who individually earns the most unique Blue Ribbons in Study Island during the contest period will be selected as the winning student.

  • One school prize winner and one student prize winner will be chosen from a compiled list of total entrants each month of the contest.
  • One school prize winner and one student prize winner will be chosen from a compiled list of total entrants after each semester (fall and spring).
  • One school winner and one student winner will be chosen from a compiled list of total entrants at the end of the full school year.

What if there is a tie?
In the event of a school tie, the school winners will be determined by the average percent of questions answered correctly per student for active and enrolled students (no teachers or admins) participating in the contest. In the event of a student tie, the student winners will be determined by the percent of questions answered correctly.
